Magic of Play Preschool

Magic of Play Preschool is a child-led, nature preschool for ages 2-5 years. We are Reggio Emilia inspired and value lots of outdoor exploration, open-ended play, creativity, and movement. Children will love our 3 acres of wooded wetlands, beautiful new classrooms, and caring teachers.
We believe childhood is a time for exploration, risk-taking, and discovering what you can do. In line with developmental and educational research, we emphasize open-ended play, especially outdoors, as a key part of learning. We then connect these play experiences to developmental milestones and early childhood educational standards. We want students to experience, question, observe, and investigate, fueling their curiosity and leading to more questions. This process of natural child-led exploration and joyful learning is the true magic of play.
Our Program
Magic of Play Preschool was founded in 2024 by Michelle Shilakes. We opened for students on December 8, 2025. For more details about our school year program, you can read our newly updated family handbook here. For details about our summer camp program, you can read our camp handbook here.
Our Building
Our building was designed with a focus on creating the ideal environment for early childhood education. Our school is 6,000 square feet, featuring 3 classrooms, each with access to the outdoors and their own bathroom. We also have an Art Room and plenty of outdoor space for play and exploration.

Little Lambs Preschool
St. Luke Lutheran Church –
Meridian Campus
5589 Van Atta Rd.
Haslett, MI 48840

We are a part-time preschool that offers programs for children between the ages of 3-5. We have small class sizes and impressive teacher-student ratios. Our theme-based curriculum offers a wide range of developmentally appropriate activities to promote growth in all developmental domains. Students attend “specials” each week such as library, chapel, and music, and we organize several family events and field trips throughout the year. We are Christian-based, but we welcome families from any faith or background! Our goal is to have our students leave Little Lambs loving school, being ready to learn, and being socially, emotionally, and academically prepared for Kindergarten.
Our Goal
To have our students leave St. Luke Little Lambs loving school, being ready to learn and being socially and academically prepared for Kindergarten.
We nurture your child’s natural strengths in a loving and safe environment. Children see the world around them in wonder and awe, we believe in encouraging their natural curiosity and helping them find the path that God has determined for them.
Our philosophy
Our philosophy is based on the belief that every child is a wonderful gift from God, made in His image and likeness, and filled with dignity, goodness, and an incredible potential for discovery, learning, and growth.
We believe in providing age appropriate activities for the children that will develop and enhance their natural curiosity and imagination. We also believe that parents are the primary teachers of their preschool children and that they are entrusting them to our loving care. Accordingly, the family is an integral part of our program, and their participation is an essential element to the success of our program.
Parent Participation:
We have an open-door policy and you are invited to visit whenever you like. We have many opportunities throughout the year to volunteer, help with parties, or assist teachers with activities.
